Pokesdown is branding itself as the vintage quarter of Bournemouth.

Local fashion and furniture shops in the area opened from 10am to 4pm for the special Valentine-themed event, which featured attractions including street entertainers, a vintage photo booth and a traditional ice-cream tricycle.

An Independent Traders Fair was held in the Tattoo Parlour Café, containing stalls selling vintage and handmade clothing, accessories, cards, decorations and much more.

Caroline Reed, owner of Scribe Tattooing and the Tattoo Parlour Café in Pokesdown is a member of the Creative Industries Board for the Boscombe Regeneration.

She said: “We did a similar event back in November, it was completely bonkers, and we had about 2000 people come through, supporting the local economy.

“We love Pokesdown and we love Valentines, so we’ve decided to do it all again, but this time it’s bigger and better than the Christmas event.”

Owner of Fishee Designs vintage photo booth, Emily Fisher, said: “There’s so many people around, and there’s so much going on.

“I wish we could do something like this every week, to get people in and get people talking about Pokesdown.”

Designer and accessories lover Carla Sanders, owner of handmade jewellery business Carlitta Monchitta, agreed that the event had given local traders a boost following the quiet winter season:

“I always sell at Boscombe Vintage Market. Today has been very successful, I’ve sold quite a lot.”
