Pakistani documentary Saving Face picked up the the Oscar for best short documentary at the awards on 26th February 2012.
The short documentary was directed by the Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Daniel Junge. Sharmeen is the first Pakistani to win the prestigious award.
The film is about a London-based Pakistani plastic surgeon who travels to Pakistan to perform reconstructive surgery on women who have been attacked with acid. The film tackles issues of inequality in regards to women and acid violence.
Sharmeen has her documentaries regularly broadcast on Channel 4, CNN and Al-Jazeera.
