An unusual preparation is sneaking up in Weymouth – on the council’s agenda is to make accommodation pest-free for Olympic visitors.

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council will host a free pest control seminar as part of the Olympic and Paralympic preparations.

The environmental health workshop will give advice to businesses offering accommodation during the Olympics.

Councillor Geoff Petherick, Brief Holder for Community Safety at Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, said: “Pest control is crucial for any business, especially those in the hospitality industry.

“Business owners can save time, money and reputation by seeking advice from the council and be pro-active in ensuring pests don’t impact on their business.”

Businesses such as hotels, holiday parks, hostels and bed-and-breakfasts are more prone to pest infections.

The majority of businesses have effective pest controls in place, and as a result pest infestations are rare.

But the council says the seminar will ensure that they are properly equipped in the unlikely event that they experience pests at their premises.

The seminar will take place on 17 April at Weymouth Pavilion between 2pm and 4pm.

The event will be hosted by Professor Moray Anderson, the Technical Director of the Killgerm Group and an expert in the field of pest control.
