Comic Conference to hit Bournemouth

One of the biggest annual comics conferences in the UK is set to be held at Bournemouth University this June.

The Comic Conference 2012, which has successfully been held at Manchester Metropolitan University for the last two years, is the third annual Comic Conference organised by editors of routledge’s journal of comics and graphic novels. And will host David Lloyd, the illustrator of V for Vendetta, as a key note speaker.

Dr Julia Round, One of the organisers of the conference and a lecturer in Communication Literature & Linguistics at Bournemouth University, said that decision to move the event to Bournemouth this year was “for the sake of fairness, to attract a different crowd and create greater accessibility from London.”

The conference will have two themed days – The first day, 28 June, will cover ‘comics and education’, which Dr Round believes “is a very overlooked subject in this field”, and will present new research into this area. As well as showing the very first UK screening of Todd Kent’s award-winning documentary Comic Book Literacy.

The second day will focus on ‘comics and adaptation’, and will look beyond the area of superhero movies, discussing digital comics, theatre and comics, and more.
