Students in Bournemouth have displayed lukewarm support to the call from the National Union Of Students (NUS) to boycott lectures today.
There is no picketing line at Bournemouth University, and the Student Union at the Arts University College say they’ve received no backing at all.
Students across the country were being called on by the NUS to not come into lectures today as part of a week of action designed to make the government “come clean” on their plans for higher education.
But the President of Bournemouth University’s Student Union (SUBU), Toby Horner, says there’s been very little reaction to the campaign amongst those studying at the University.
“The reality is that we only had two students come forward during the consultation period and say there should be a walkout.
“At the end of the day, we’re here to represent all of the students, and we can’t get behind something with such little support,” said Mr Horner.
Instead, a discussion was held on the fees increase between the Union, University students, and the University’s Vice Chancellor, John Vinney.
The Union of the Arts University College in Bournemouth has set up a picketing line at one of the entrances to its campus.
But when asked if they’ve received student support, they said: “none whatsoever”.
