The opinions of residents on North Road, Poole, are divided over the planned reduction of car parking spaces.
The Borough of Poole has recently approved works concerning reduction in the number of parking spaces on North Road to improve the network for sustainable travel between Poole and Bournemouth.
Mark Lampert, 44, a local resident who commutes through North Road everyday does not support the plan by Poole council.
“If you go in a town centre there is nowhere to park, so you’ve got to park somewhere else, they should provide more parking spaces.” said Mr Lampert, “there is nowhere else to park so of course they are going to park here and go down to Poole.”
But many residents are positive and support the removal of parking spaces, Shirley Daly, 64, said: “The parking doesn’t bother me but I think it’s a good step.
“It is a bit of a problem (the parked cars) you can’t get around the bus to see what’s coming down the road,” she added.
The works are part of the £12 million allocated to Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch to improve sustainable transport between the three towns.
Residents also raised concerns about the speed of traffic along North road.
John Doswell, 80, a resident said: “I mean you have got children, old people and they must be doing 50 or 60 mph up here. It’s a difficult road to cross.”
“This road needs to be sorted out, it’s dangerous,” he added.
Poole Council recently claimed that they would monitor the speed of traffic on North Road closely to assess the impact the works have on the road.
