An new documentary shows how a 23 year old Austrian girl nearly got lost on her 25 day hike through the frozen Highlands of Iceland last summer.
“I have never been so scared in my life”, the blond girl whimpers into the lens of her camera. She stands on a high slope in the middle of the Icelandic mountains as the ground under her feet begins to move.
23 year old Klara Harden from Austria has crossed rugged Iceland on a 25-day solo hike. Now she has launched the documentary video ‘Made in Iceland’ that tells her fascinating journey.
In an interview with Nomad Earth, she said: “I broke all of my personal records and overcame my boundaries. It was the longest, hardest and most adventurous enterprise of my life and I loved every bit of it. Never before was I that tired, happy, exhausted and bored by my own thoughts, never as alone, hungry and alive.”
Klara’s happiest moment was when she met a polar fox on her way. “Having such an encounter in the harsh wheather and fast highlands feels like a friendly smile from nature, trying to tell you that you are being accepted here now.”
“It was not always easy and I questioned my decision many times, but this hike might have been one of the most important things I’ve ever done in my life.”
Klara financed her trip with crowd-funding and attracted a couple of outdoor manufacturers to sponsor her. She holds a Bachelor of Art’s degree and works as a freelance photographer and videographer. With the hike in Iceland, she made her life dream come true.
“I can only give one advice: Pack your stuff, buy that ticket and live, explore, discover! It’s always worth it!”
