UK unemployment falls to 1.86 million, the lowest level in more than six years, where the South of England has the lowest unemployement rate (4.5%).

According to the latest figure released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), for the three months ending January 2015, 73.3% of people aged from 16 to 64 were in work, compared with 72.1% last year.

As ONS says on its website, the main finding of this new figure is that “employment continued to rise and unemployment continued to fall”. And more importantly,  since late 2011/early 2012 these changes have been a constant.

In the regional labour market, the employment rate in the East of England was the highest (76.6%) and Wales was the lowest (69.7%).

Bournemouth residents’ opinions concerning this new figure are divergent.
