A flipping good time was had by all at yesterday’s pancake day race at Wimborne Minster church.

Alongside adult races, there were races for schools, toddlers and a wheelchair race. A new race was also introduced for this year, featuring the assistance dogs from Woofability and their handlers.

Winners included Phillip Goymer from Wimborne’s Saville Estate Agents, who won the title of Minster Pancake Champion for the second year in a row, and wheelchair winner Enid Davies, who won the prize of a large sack of bird food gifted by Wimborne Pet Centre.

“It’s a great day for everybody and the kids love it”

The Wimborne community came out in force support the racers this year, the twentieth race since it was revived in 1998, after an absence of some 16 years.

Town crier Chris Brown, who started and finished the races alongside the Mayor of Wimborne, said: “It’s good for the community. It’s reestablishing an old tradition, and I’m all for that being a bit of a traditionalist!”

Chair of Wimborne BID Ian Faulkner said: “Events like this are a part of the fabric of the community, it’s part of the heritage and tradition of the town.

“Trying to bring people to understand what a town like this has got for its history is a good thing.”
