Safe cycle routes in Bournemouth “not given priority”

Bournemouth cyclists say it’s hard to choose the ‘greener’ option to get to work because routes aren’t safe enough.

According to the council, the number of people choosing to cycle has increased by more than a quarter in twenty years.

However, commuters say the cycle lanes are not connected between different areas which makes it difficult to travel long distances.

Andy Storey owns a cycling shop in Poole and says the council could be doing more.

He says: “I’ve cycled to work pretty much every day of my life…there’s no priority given to safe cycle routes.”

The council says they’re always talking with the local cycling forum about where improvements can be made.
