Reeves told The Breaker: “We take great pride in being the best and so to be voted club of the month because we’ve basically won every league game during the month is what we look to achieve every month to be honest”.
The club of the month award recognises and rewards the top performers among the 84 clubs playing in the Southern League each month and takes into account games played in the League, League Cup, FA Cup and FA Trophy.
The Dolphins won five of their six fixtures in September, with their only loss coming in the Southern Football League Challenge Cup to Wimborne Town.
The five victories for Poole included two FA Cup qualifying round wins against Didcot Town and Hungerford Town and three in the Southern Premier South as the Dolphins took all three points against Harrow Borough, Gosport Borough and Hendon to ensure they finished the month top of the league.
After a postponement last weekend due to a waterlogged pitch, the Dolphins currently sit third in the Southern Premier South, comfortably in the play-offs, with two games in hand on Truro City in second, and one in hand over table topping Tiverton Town.
Chairman targets the title
Reeves was keen to stress that Poole had no intention of finishing in the play-off places when asked whether the club were aiming for promotion this season and believes he and his manager have the formula for success.
“Our target from the start of the season was promotion and was winning the league championship.”
“Tommy (Killick) and I have a theory that it takes a very special type of player to win the league title. We reckon that most players would prefer to play for a team that finishes fourth or fifth because they’ll win more often than they lose but if they do lose it’s not a disaster.”
He continued: “We want players for whom losing is a disaster and it’s that type of mentality that wins you league titles”.
“We’ve now got a team which we think is capable of winning the league title and that’s what we intend to do.”
Fans view
Poole Town fan Jamie Caines has echoed the Chairman’s hopes of winning the title.
“We’ve (Poole) made a really good start to the season and I feel at the very least we should get the play-offs, but hopefully we get first place and don’t have to go through them.”
Poole Town play away at Hayes and Yeading this Saturday in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round.
