A nationwide lockdown would stop many from attempting to run a newly formed business, but not Mr Walid Eltakl.
Eltakl, a local Bournemouth resident who had the grand opening of his restaurant “Fresh & Delish” on March 13th, 2020, just a day before the United Kingdom implemented a nationwide lockdown, decided to keep his restaurant open and running during the crisis despite running the risk of taking financial losses.

When asked why he chose to keep his restaurant open, Eltakl stated: “My restaurant is helping the community by providing a place for people to come and eat while out on their walks”.

A restaurant that prides itself on only using locally produced foods and products, Eltakl also explained that his restaurant is providing a place for people to still obtain fresh quality fast food while many of the other restaurants are closed.
“My emphasis has always been on finding locally produced products with a small carbon footprint because I care about the environment and I care about freshly produced food”
Despite only being open for six weeks through a national lockdown, “Fresh & Delish” has managed to have a positive impression on a few local residents.

Deandre Pennington, a local Bournemouth resident, said that since going to “Fresh & Delish” he has been able to get “Fresh food that’s not as greasy while still being filled up”
Pennington also said that “Fresh & Delish” has been an asset to him during the lockdown by providing a place where “I can come outside and relax in a safe and clean social environment while still practising social distancing.”
As “Fresh & Delish” continues to remain open during the lockdown, it will continue to aim in providing a breath of fresh air for the community.
