The Bournemouth Bay run is back following last year’s success and it is expected to be the biggest one ever.
This is the second time that Bournemouth Tourism has organised the event, sponsored by Fitness First, which has attracted over 3000 runners to the seafront in the past. Like previous years, the event includes a half marathon, a 10k road race, a 5k fun run, and this year sees the addition of 1000m run.
2000 places are available for the half marathon, 2000 places for the 10k and 500 for the 5k. Over 1,200 of them have already been snapped up on the half marathon and 10k events.
Sara Rickett, the events coordinator for Bournemouth Tourism said: “Last year we sold out of places by mid February even though the closing date for entries was the end of March. This year we are also selling places fast.”
The event aims to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, who also help to organise the event. Over the last 3 years the event has raised over £100,000 in sponsorship money. At the same time, the tourism department also see it a chance to promote the local tourism.
Mrs Rickett said: “This is a charity sporting event for the local community, as well as drawing running enthusiasts from across the country therefore benefiting local tourism.”
