Bournemouth University has announced a new programme to offer 100 doctoral opportunities to postgraduates.
The launch of the new programme will provide 44 fully-funded and match-funded studentships and a further 60 Vice-Chancellor doctoral scholarships for candidates from a range of disciplines.
Tiantian Zang, Head of the Graduate School said: “We are focused on attracting outstanding candidates as we invest in creating a vibrant and stimulating postgraduate research environment in line with our strategic plan – BU 2018”
Staff are invited to submit their proposals for funding via an internal competition on the BU Research blog.
Once allocated, funded projects will be advertised to candidates externally from April.
Each studentship provides different opportunities for candidates applying.
Matched-funding may come from an industry/business, Government and non-government organisations, academic schools, NHS, research councils or other external bodies, offering 50% equivalent to £21k over three years.
Fully funded studentships are for the elite, highly original, timely and non-applied research projects where there is no potential for match funding.
Vice-Chancellor Doctoral Scholarships provide outstanding students wishing to study with a particular supervisor or research team the opportunity to apply directly and develop a project.
Applications will be assessed and awards made by a University Panel consisting of the academic members of the University Executive Team (UET) and two members of the BU Professoriate.
In selecting proposals for funding, emphasis will be placed on the excellence of the research and quality of the proposal.
“I strongly encourage you to get involved,” Tiantian Zang added.
The candidates will be provided with the opportunity to develop their projects with their chosen supervisory team.
The marketing campaign begins today with a series of ‘teaser’ communications via national publications and their website.
Deadlines for applications will be Wednesday 29 February.
