£241 has been raised at the Burns Night ‘s raffle held by the Mayor’s Charity Appeal Fund at the Norfolk Royal Hotel in Bournemouth last Friday, where around 78 people were in attendance.
General secretary of Bournemouth Leukaemia Fund, Estelle Wilson, explained: “A lot of people don’t work to support national charities, they want to do something which is local. There is an old English saying charity begins at home. So, though it’s important to help everybody, you start with your own little group first.”
Amongst the guests were: the Mayor of Bournemouth, Chris Rochester, Councillor Colin Berk, and organiser of the event- Estelle Wilson from Bournemouth Leukaemia Found.
Local enterprises such as Sunrise, Castlepoint, ECDM helped to sponsor the event.
Each year, the mayor has to choose four charities for which he will raise funds for.
This year, they include: Bournemouth Leukaemia Fund, Chesthelp Bournemouth ,The CRUMBS Project and Friends of Bournemouth’s Women’s Refuge.
There are many events organised during the year.
