Dorset is top UK retirement destination

Dorset has been selected as the top county in the UK to retire to, that’s according to a survey by a national holiday cottage company.

Sykes Cottages ran a survey to discover what every county in the UK was most famous for.

This echoes a study from three years ago where Christchurch was discovered to be the single most popular location to retire. Census data showing 30 per cent of people living there were retired.

Vince Smith-Hughes, a retirement expert at Prudential said: “people planning to stop working shouldn’t assume that a move to the country is the simple answer to a comfortable retirement, as the cost of living in these hot spots can be surprisingly high”

The list also includes includes Herefordshire, West Sussex and Dover, and can be seen in the map below.
