New outdoor fitness and playing equipment has been installed in a childrens park in Hamworthy.
The new facility is open to the public and is situated at the Pavilion end of the recreation ground in Turlin Moor.
Martin Whitchurch, Greenspace Development Officer, said: “The installation went perfectly, only taking 4 working days to complete the entire digging out, installation of equipment and surfacing with ‘grass mat’ surfacing which limits the amount of wear on the ground, whilst allowing the grass to grow through it.”
This new equipment compliments four other facilities already installed in Poole Park, Harbourside Park, Sherborn Crescent and Hamworthy Park.
The Primary Care Trust (PTC) gave Poole Borough Council £65,000 to fund four fitness areas after they recieved positive feedback on their exisiting sites.
Mr Whitchurch added: “People have already been having a go on it and hopefully local residents will realise that it is a great way to keep fit, for free, in the outdoors making it a well-used local facility.”
Giray Tiryaki, Bournemouth University student enjoys using the outdoor fitness equipment, he said: “I really appreciate gym sites as I don’t have to pay any fees and I can use them regularly. It’s a free workout that brings great results.”
But, Dagmar Kofler, 23 from Bournemouth University, said: “I don’t ever use the fitness facilities. I find them too intimidating with all the people walking around and useless during winter as it’s far too cold.”
The fitness equipment in Turlin Moor has a selection of exercise equipment including a skier, surfer, horseback rider, space walker or body twister machines for the general public to use.
